After five years of conflict in Syria, the United Nations children’s agency said on Monday eighty percent of Syria’s children have been left with a growing number of those who were forced into labor, join armed groups, or marry young due to the impoverished conditions.
According to Peter Salama, the agency’s regional chief, an estimated three million children remain out of school and another seven million children live in poverty.
Investigators have documented, inside refugee camps in Jordan, at least, one-third of girls under the age of eighteen are married. That is triple the numbers of child marriages in 2011.
The children’s agency also reported that they have documented an estimated three hundred and fifty-four cases of child soldier recruitment in 2015.
Grave attacks on children in 2015 rose to fifteen thousand verifiable cases including four hundred children killed and another five hundred children left maimed.
